Our Lady of the Wayside’s Grapes and Ale: BBQ, Brews and Blues

Our Lady of the Wayside's Grapes and Ale

BBQ, brews and blues at the ballpark – besides being a fun tongue-twister, it’s my favorite way to chill out in the summer.

And on June 28, this triple-play of summer fun comes to downtown Cleveland at Our Lady of the Wayside’s Grapes and Ale fundraiser.

From 7-10pm, Progressive Field will be taken over by some of the area’s best BBQ restaurants and beer and wine providers.

Giveaway: Greenhouse Tavern’s Prophets of Smoked Meat

I usually don’t run 2 giveaways at the same time. However, when you read about the Greenhouse Tavern Prophets of Smoked Meat giveaway, you’ll understand why I couldn’t pass it up.

Because this week’s a little crazy, Scott stepped in to blog about it. With his love of meat, I think it was the perfect match! Remember to also enter my Dishcrawl’s Neighborfood giveaway.

Oh, Cleveland, how much do I love meat?  That’s not a rhetorical question, start guessing!

See, I’ve always been a fan of meat. But if you’ve ever had the “privilege” of dining with me (quotation marks added by Amanda for sake of accuracy), you’ll know my past preference for carnivorous cuts was far from adventurous.

My orders of steaks, burgers, ribs, fillets, and others were always safe, straightforward, and plain.

Cleveland, you’ve shown me the better path.

Giveaway: Dishcrawl Cleveland’s Neighborfood

Dishcrawl Cleveland's Menu of Non-Profits to Benefit at Neighborfood

Dishcrawl Cleveland’s “Menu” of Nonprofits Benefiting from Neighborfood

Cleveland is filled with so many incredible nonprofits that it can sometimes be difficult to choose how to give back to the community.

Not the worst problem to have, I know. But Neighborfood, a new event on June 22 from food tour company Dishcrawl Cleveland, wants to make it a little easier for us.

With a literal “menu” of local nonprofits to choose from, a portion of each ticket goes to community causes while showing off one of Northeast Ohio’s delicious neighborhoods.

Cleveland Zoo Society Celebrates 40 Years of ZippityZooDoo

Cleveland Zoological Society ZippityZooDoo

Each June, the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo kicks off summer with a fantastic dinner, cocktails, and dancing under the warm night sky.

More than just a party with the animals, ZippityZooDoo has also been raising money for the last 40 years for the Zoo’s educational initiatives – making it Cleveland’s longest running benefit.

For instance, the live auction at last year’s ZippityZooDoo raised over $51,000 in Zoo scholarships – providing Summer Day Camp scholarships, free lunches, and ZooBus trips to 25,000 students.

Guest Post: Call Me Trouble’s Band Aid Bash Recap

For as much fun as I had this past weekend nerding out over Felicia Day, Peter Davison and Brian Posehn, the downside of our roadtrip to Chicago was that I had to miss MedWish’s Band Aid Bash on Saturday night.

Fortunately, Katie O. was able to attend for me and share her experience.  Once you’ve enjoyed her recap, go check out her blog Call Me Trouble!

MedWish Band Aid Bash

First and foremost, I would like to thank Amanda for the opportunity to attend MedWish’s BandAid Bash. MedWish is an international philanthropy that collects and re-packages medical supplies to send abroad. Founded in 1993 MedWish is celebrating its 20th Anniversary this year and the energy in the air at the event was palpable.

I felt so lucky to be a part of the event with my lovely date, Julie from Wearing Mascara. This event somehow made me feel like a red carpet celebrity while not disguising the meaningful work MedWish does each and everyday.

Cleveland Magazine’s Silver Spoon Awards Giveaway

Cleveland Magazine's Silver Spoon Awards Party to benefit the Arthritis Foundation

Silver Spoon 2013: May 15, 6-9pm

This May, Cleveland Magazine unveils their list of Northeast Ohio’s “Best Restaurants” as voted on by readers – from Best BBQ and Sunday Brunch to Best Small Plates and Wine List in the city.

The winning restaurants are then invited to showcase a signature dish at the Silver Spoon Awards Party on May 15.

I volunteered at Silver Spoon a couple years ago and I’m not exaggerating when I say it’s in my top 2 of favorite Cleveland tasting events.

And this year I’m downright giddy to host a
Silver Spoon Awards Party Giveaway!

Cleveland Weekend: Yuri’s Night and Market at the Foodbank

Cleveland Weekend - Yuri's Night

Yuri’s Night Cleveland at Great Lakes Science Center

Some blog-keeping: Have you entered to win 2 tickets to the Cleveland JazzFest?
You can tweet daily for additional entries.

After all the running around for last week’s Partners Bowl-a-Rama (who has stress dreams over bowling? this guy!), I was more than ready for the weekend.

Ready to sleep past 4 each morning, ready to kick back and have fun. With both Yuri’s Night and Market at the Foodbank this weekend, it was easy.

Yuri’s Night Space Party at Great Lakes Science Center was like I had died and gone to heaven. So much sci-fi cosplay, a bit of learning, even more partying, and a couple awesome photo ops!

International Partners in Mission’s Namaste Night

Namaste

There are many reasons I’m grateful for joining Partners, most of which I’ve blogged about before – events like next Thursday’s Bowling Night, the ability to support the theatre, Jump Back Ball.

But more than any other reason, it’s the friends I’ve made that keep me coming back.

I know, it sounds cliche. I’m ok with that because it’s true.

And what I love about this is how they’ve unexpectedly introduced me to so many non-theatre experiences. Whether it’s our membership chair Kevin’s avid love of local sports, being invited to go paintballing (which I promise I’ll try this summer) or learning about the Great Lakes Medieval Faire.

Then there’s International Partners in Mission, a Cleveland-based organization which a few Partners volunteer with.

I’m always happy to learn about a group that reaches the far corners of the world from our own backyard. Continue reading
