#SummerinCLE: A Trip to Tribetown for Fireworks and Dollar Dogs

#SummerinCLE: Dollar Dogs, Fireworks and a Cleveland Indians Win - couldn't ask for anything more!

#summerinCLE: Dollar Dogs, Fireworks and an Indians Win – couldn’t ask for anything more!

UPDATE: This contest ends on Sept. 2, not August 2 as had been originally noted. After confirming conflicting information on the Contest Instructions and Rules and Regulations pages with Positively Cleveland, the date has been corrected below.

An Indians win, dollar dogs and fireworks. In my books, that’s a perfect #summerinCLE night!

Friday night, Scott and I walked down to Progressive to watch the Indians take on the Texas Rangers.

Scott and I had seats in the relocated Social Suite where we enjoyed an amazing view over the first base line.  It was an exciting back and forth matchup with Raburn pulling out a 3-run homer in the 11th inning to win the game.

It may have been a long night, but I wasn’t complaining while I chowed down on a few dollar dogs, a bottle of Indigo Imp and funnel cake for dessert. I’m glad we stuck around for the spectacular Jimi Hendrix-themed fireworks afterwards – the Indians put on my favorite fireworks show in Cleveland.

We had such a nice time that I couldn’t think of anything more perfect for my #SummerinCLE Tackk.

Positively Cleveland has teamed with local startup Tackk to celebrate all that is great about Cleveland in the summer. And this week, they’re giving away some great prizes in exchange for you sharing your summer favorites.

Seventh Inning Stretch

All you have to do is snap a photo and create a Summer in Cleveland tackk page that will then be shared with potential visitors to the city.

In return for the “tackk,” you’ll be entered to win the prize of the week as well as the grand prize at the end of the campaign (September 2). Each post earns you an additional entry with up to 3 entries per week.

The grand prize includes four tickets to the Cleveland Browns home-opener, a one-night stay at the Holiday Inn Express Downtown Cleveland for Saturday, September 7, four tickets to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, dinner at a downtown restaurant and attire from CLE Clothing Company.

You can learn more at and check out my Tackk at But hurry – the contest ends this Friday!

Disclosure: I received two tickets as part of the Cleveland Indians Social Suite program. Anyone can apply to attend a game at the Social Suite at

Clue Into Cleveland Blogs, Ohio Blogging Edition

Tremont Farmers' Market

Tremont Farmers’ Market

Last night, a handful of Cleveland bloggers headed to Tremont for July’s Ohio Blogging Meetup.

Before converging on the Lincoln Park Pub for Taco Tuesday and a chat about blogging, we browsed the Tremont Farmers’ Market.

I grabbed a peach and cherry pie from Gray House Pies and chicken paprikash pierogi from Pride of Cleveland Pierogies; however, my favorite treat of the night was a cucumber and mint popsicle from Popsmith.

All this go-go-go has me feeling like this lately

All this go-go-go has me feeling like this lately

I wish life had a pause button. Something that would allow me to take a breath when things are nonstop.

Since my first morning back from vacation, I feel like I’ve just been pushing forward, go-go-go, unable to gather my thoughts.

In addition to preparing for this weekend’s furniture move with Scott’s parents, I’ve been getting ready for some exciting news I’m announcing Friday.

One of the things that fell by the wayside was my blog reading – it’s been over a month since my last wrap-up. However, I made time on Saturday and Sunday to fix that.

Even if it was for only a few minutes, it was nice to get away into the Cleveland blog-o-sphere.

Clue Into Cleveland Blogs, the Food and Fitness Edition

Before we get to the latest edition of my Cleveland Blogs Round-Up, I have some news to share:

A couple weeks ago, I had the pleasure of chatting about Cleveland on Mystery Meet’s Find Dining podcast and the recording is now up.

Find Dining Podcast featuring Cleveland Blogs

The Find Dining podcast is for “foodies who love travel and travelers who love food.” Each week, host Seth Resler picks a different city and talks to someone about their local dining scene.

We discussed Greenhouse Tavern and I gave a couple more restaurant and non-food recommendations along the way.

Tune into: Find Dining – Cleveland Edition.

In keeping with the food theme, this round-up focuses on Cleveland blogs that made my mouth water the last few weeks. Bon appetit!

Clue Into Cleveland Blogs, the Superman Day Edition

A few reminders:

  • Today’s the last day to enter my Tri-C JazzFest Giveaway. Enter here and remember to tweet daily for additional entries.
  • As I posted yesterday, today is also Superman Day! Here’s a story on NPR about Superman and Cleveland and here’s my #SuperCLE contribution:
Superman Day

Traveling Hulk got his hands on a red cape in honor of Superman Day. Up-up-and-away!

A couple weeks ago, I wrote about wanting to read more blogs and how I decided to start a regular Clue Into Cleveland Blogs round-up to get myself back in the habit.

I lied, though. I promised I’d be back every other week with this and I couldn’t even get past the first round-up without a delay. #BlogFail.

However, I’m a believer in try-try-again. So here we are – better late than never – my round-up of 10 posts I’ve recently enjoyed from blogs around Cleveland!

What are you doing right now?  Whatever it is, drop it for 5 seconds and go vote for Cleveland in the #SoMeT13US Final Four!

We’re up against Huntsville, Alabama in the Social Media Tourism Symposium semifinals and it’s time to show them who rocks. Voting started at 10 am and will be open until 10pm today (March 28).

As of the time I’m posting this, Cleveland really needs your vote – especially after Huntsville had over 5,000 votes in the last round.

You can vote here: and can vote on multiple devices (computer, smartphone, tablet, etc.). So vote on them all and then share with your social networks, family, and friends.

Still need convincing? Check out Positively Cleveland : Is This The Year Cleveland Makes The Championship. Besides the fact that this conference has the potential for a great economic impact on Cleveland, who doesn’t like to show a little local pride.

Why are you still reading this? Go vote!

As I shared yesterday, all I have for our time at Fabletown and Beyond is love. In fact, if I had to nitpick the weekend, the only problem had nothing to do with the convention:

It finally dawned on me that I’m too old for 13+ hours in the car.

Between our anniversary and Jump Back Ball, Scott and I decided to make a mini Cleveland vacation out of last weekend. So we extended our stay at the PlayhouseSquare Wyndham to include both Friday and Saturday nights.

While Scott’s ideal vacation plan was to take a night off to relax in the hotel, mine was an evening out at the theatre for Great Lakes Theater’s Social Media Night.

I’ve been a longtime fan of Great Lakes Theater since I started blogging 3 years ago. (You’ll find links to a few of my favorite GLT experiences at the end of this post.) But it had been about a year or so since I’d been back.

USA Network’s Characters Unite Tour at Public Square

Characters Unite Tour Stops in Cleveland

USA Network’s Characters Unite Tour Stops in Cleveland today and Tuesday

When I wake up at five each morning to write, there’s one thing I do before anything else. Before I turn my laptop on or make a cup of tea, I turn on my tv.

While some people like to listen to music when they work, tv is my go-to background noise. I’ll confess, though, on occasion I can get too wrapped up in the shows on my DVR.

From Burn Notice and Psych to White Collar and Suits, USA Network has probably been the biggest culprit in my early-morning procrastination.

However, their focus on character-driven stories has led to more than just an entertaining slate of shows.
